The Dalai Lama has cancelled his trip to South Africa, where he had been invited by fellow Nobel Peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The South African government said that they had failed to grant him a visa on time.
Desmond Tutu said that “at least, we were expecting that from the apartheid government.”
The row intensified as South Africa’s Deputy President Kgalema Motianthe visited China for four day last week.
South Africa and China have signed a bilateral trade and investment agreement.
The South African government didn’t comment on the link between the Dalai Lama’s visa and their partnership with China.
It is the second time in two years that the Dalai Lama's visit to South Africa has been blocked.

Le Dalaï Lama a annulé son voyage en Afrique Du Sud, où il avait été invité par l’archevêque Desmond Tutu, Prix Nobel de la Paix 1984.
Le gouvernement sud africain a déclaré ne pas avoir eu le temps nécessaire pour lui délivrer un visa.
Desmond Tutu a déclaré qu’au moins, on pouvait s’attendre à ça du gouvernement du temps de l’apartheid.
Le conflit s’intensifie en raison de la présence du Vice-président sud africain en Chine pour des négociations de quatre jours la semaine dernière. L’Afrique du Sud et la Chine ont signé un accord de partenariat économique.
Le gouvernement sud africain n’a pas mentionné la relation entre le visa du Dalaï Lama et les accords signés avec la Chine.
C’est tout de même la deuxième fois en deux ans que la visite du Dalaï Lama en Afrique du Sud est annulée.
