Eskom, the South African public electricity giant is in trouble. Its boss, Brian Molefe, has just announced his resignation. A decision that will take effect in January and that happens just two weeks after the publication of an important report. The report implicates Brian Molefe and the rich Gupta family in a corruption scandal. The Gupta family is close to President Jacob Zuma. Meanwhile the giant company is in great economy difficulty.
Mr. Molefe said “I am confident that, when the time comes, I will be able to show that I have done nothing wrong and that my name will be cleared” a statement that was met with public skepticism.
Molefe's 9.5 million Rand bonus (620,000 euro), which was due in June 2018 if he met performance requirements, could be paid to him in January. Eskom's policy states that executives forfeit their shares if they do not remain for the duration of the three-year period, except if there are other reasons.

Eskom, le géant public de l'électricité en Afrique du Sud, est en difficulté. Son patron, Brian Molefe, vient d'annoncer sa démission. Une décision qui prendra effet en janvier et qui arrive deux semaines après la publication d'un rapport important impliquant Brian Molefe et la famille riche de Gupta dans un scandale de corruption.
La famille Gupta est proche du président Jacob Zuma, quant à l’entreprise, elle est en grande difficulté économique.
M. Molefe a eu beau déclaré : “Cette décision ne signifie pas que j’ai quoi que ce soit à me reprocher. Je suis persuadé que c’est le bon moment, pour prouver que je n’ai rien fait de mal et que mon nom sera réhabilité”, l’opinion a accueilli ses propos avec scepticisme.
La prime de départ de M. Molefe s’élève à 9,5 millions de Rand (620.000 euro), et doit lui être versée en juin 2018 s'il atteint les objectifs fixés. Elle pourrait lui être payée en janvier. Le contrat chez Eskom stipule que les dirigeants perdent leurs actions s'ils ne restent pas pendant une durée de trois ans.
