Rapid Rail System scheduled for 2010
The Bombela Consortium, which is composed of Bombardier, French civil contractor Bouygues Travaux Publics, South African civil contractor Murray & Roberts, and Strategic Partners Group (SPG), has finalized the agreement for the rapid rail transit system.
In July 2005, the Gauteng Provincial Government selected the Bombela Consortium as preferred bidder. The construction began in 2006 and is planned to be finished for the Soccer Cup in 2010. Bombardier will design and build 96 Electrostars. The Gautrain Rapid Rail Link will be 50 miles (80 km) long and will connect Johannesburg, Pretoria and the Johannesburg International Airport. It will include 10 stations and a bus feeder system and will cost about US$3.3 billion. Bombardier received about half of this amount to finance the project (about US$1,650 million). The fleet is built in Derby and assembled in South Africa.
Andre Navarri, president of Bombardier Transportation, said: "This is an important step in the development of South Africa's rail infrastructure and promises to deliver long-term economic benefits for the country and its people".

Un système de transport ferroviaire rapide est prévu pour 2010
Le Consortium Bombela, qui est composé de Bombardier, Bouygues Travaux Publics, l’entreprise sud-africaine Murray and Roberts et Strategic Partners Group (SPG), a rendu définitif l’accord pour le système de transport rapide ferroviaire.
En juillet 2005, le gouvernement provincial de Gauteng a sélectionné le consortium Bombela pour financer le projet. Les travaux ont commencé en 2006 et leur fin est prévue pour la Coupe du monde de football en 2010. Bombardier va créer 96 Electrostars. La ligne Gautrain fera 50 miles de long (environ 80 km) et reliera Johannesburg, Pretoria et l’aéroport international de Johannesburg. Le système inclura 10 gares et une voie de bus.
Le projet coûte environ 3.3 milliards de dollars. Bombardier a reçu environ la moitié de cette somme pour financer le projet (à peu près 1650 millions de dollars). Les véhicules seront construits à Derby et seront assemblés en Afrique du Sud.
Pour le président de Bombardier Transportation, Andre Navarri: "C’est un pas important dans le développement des infrastructures de transport sud-africaines et promet des avantages économiques sur une longue durée pour le pays et ses habitants".
