Prince Harry’s Touching Tribute to Former
President Nelson Mandela
On Thursday 3rd
december, Prince Harry ended his 7-day tour of the country by visiting the
Nelson Mandela Foundation Centre of Memory in Johannesburg. He was introduced to
Mr Mandela's widow Graca Machel who made him visited The Nelson Mandela
Foundation
The Nelson Mandela
Foundation in Johannesburg is home to a permanent museum about the statesman's
life and features a striking black and white photographic exhibition about the
fight against apartheid.
There, Harry was shown
documents, photos and artefacts from the life of the world leader
affectionately known as Madiba.
he was instantly
attracted to an image of his late mother, Diana Princess of Wales, pictured
with the late African president and was left feeling nostalgic .He learned that
the photo was taken in Cape Town in 1997, when they met to discuss the growing
HIV and AIDS crisis in Africa
He says in his
tribute, " I cannot imagine a better way of ending my stay in South Africa where to
join you in the afternoon to remember itself Madiba at the approach of the date
of anniversary of its death. I know he is missed by a generation, a nation and most
keenly by his family. However, he will never be forgotten." Then he
recalled his time with the leader by saying "I was fortunate enough to
meet Madiba a number of years ago and I have treasured that memory ever since.
He was someone you just wanted to cuddle, discuss with and never let him go. I
have been keen to see how Mr. Mandela's values and his legacy are inspiring the
next generation and shaping the future for South Africa," he declared.
Last
but not least, the 31-year-old prince talked « directly » to the
people of South Africa. He tells them, "I would like to end by thanking
all the South Africans I have met over the last few days for their warm welcome
and hospitality. I look forward to seeing you again soon."

C’est jeudi 3 décembre
dernier que s’est terminé le séjour du prince Harry en Afrique du Sud, et pour
clore sa visite dans le pays, il a tenu à visiter la fondation Nelson
Mandela où il a rencontré la veuve de Nelson Mandela: Graca Machel.
La fondation Nelson
Mandela est une sorte de musée retraçant la vie à la fois professionnelle et
personnelle du leader sud-africain. Dans ce musée, se trouvent plusieurs
documents et notamment, un nombre incroyable de photos en noir et blanc, datant
de l’Apartheid.
Le prince Harry a pu
voir un bon nombre de ces photos et a notamment été attiré par une photo de sa
mère décédée avec celui que l’on appelait affectivement « Madiba »,
ce qui l’a laissé nostalgique. Cette photo a été prise en 1997, lorsque
Lady Diana était allée en Afrique du Sud pour rencontrer Nelson Mandela afin de
discuter des nombreux problèmes causé par le VIH SIDA.
Dans son hommage à
Nelson Mandela, le prince Harry a déclaré : « Je ne peux pas imaginer
une meilleure façon de finir mon séjour en Afrique du Sud que de vous joindre
cette après-midi pour se rappeler Madiba à l'approche de la date d'anniversaire
de sa mort. Je sais qu'il est regretté par une génération, une nation et le
plus profondément par sa famille. Cependant, il ne sera jamais oublié. »
Puis il a continué son
discours en se remémorant les souvenirs « J'ai eu la chance de le
rencontrer il y a un certain nombre d'années et j'ai chéri ce souvenir depuis.
C’était quelqu’un avec qui vous voulez juste discuter, le serrer dans vos bras
et ne jamais le laisser partir. J'ai tenu à voir comment les valeurs de
M. Mandela et son héritage sont inspirants pour la génération suivante et pour
la formation de l'avenir de l'Afrique du Sud. » A-t-il déclaré
nostalgique.
Enfin pour terminer son
discours de la plus belle des manières, il s’est adressé au peuple
sud-africain : « Je voudrais finir en remerciant tous les
Sud-Africains que j'ai rencontrés sur les derniers jours pour leur accueil
chaleureux et hospitalité. J'attends avec impatience de vous voir de nouveau
bientôt. »
