Happy Birthday Madiba
This year, South Africans will celebrate the 94th birthday of their national hero and first black president, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Nelson Mandela. To make this birthday a huge event, hundreds of people are going to sing a birthday song for him.
The former convict cum president that people usually call Madiba was born on the 18 of July in 1918. The song will be presented to the population a month before this date, then all the inhabitants can prepare themselves for the celebration.
From Xinhua, the song is already recorded. They say that more than 400 people met at The Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg to sing it.
"This is just wonderful, giving South Africans an opportunity to come together and they will never cease to amaze you," said Anitha Soni, trustee of the board of directors for Brand South Africa, an organisation responsible for promoting South Africa.
Of course a lot of brands fought to be the official sponsor of the event. The winners are Brand South Africa, Proudly South Africa and of course The Nelson Mandela Foundation. The department of basic education also got a partnership.
All schools and communities are invited to make this day more beautiful by preparing some special activities.
"This one is very special as Madiba turns 94, and he became the first democratically elected president of South Africa in 1994," said Proudly South Africa CEO Lesley Sedibe.
As one of the favorite word of Nelson Mandela was “uniting”, the song is going to unite all the South African by bringing together musicians, politicians, TV stars, sportsmen, business leaders and ordinary citizens. People from other countries will even come.
"We are celebrating a man who, when he came out of prison, brought South African together through his own humility when naysayers thought that South Africa was on the brink of collapse," said former president of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee Moss Mashishi.
Mandela got out of prison on February 11, 1990 and with the ANC he immediately put an end to the apartheid regime.
When he came to power by being elected president in 1994, He didn’t want to get revenge on the whites but he called for love and peace between all South Africans, whatever their skin color.
Mandela is one of the most popular characters in the world, so the UN General Assembly proclaimed the date of his birthday, July 18, the International Mandela Day.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation explained that the aim of the day was "to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better and, in doing so, build a global movement for good".
My opinion: This event can look a bit strange to some people, all the country is going to party for the birtdhay of a politician. But we can easily understand that Madiba represents really more than a politician, he represents freedom, equality, peace ... Not only is it the celebration of Mandela’s birthday but also the celebration of these values.

Cette année aura lieu un évènement très particulier en Afrique Du Sud. En effet, tous les habitant fêteront les 94 ans de leur héros national, leur premier président noir, le prix Nobel de la Paix, Nelson Mandela.
Pour faire de cet anniversaire un évènement extraordinaire, des centaines de personnes interprèteront une chanson d’anniversaire en son honneur.
Celui que les gens appellent habituellement Madiba est né le 18 juillet 1918.
La chanson sera dévoilée aux Sud Africains Le 18 juin, soit un mois avant le jour J, de façon à ce que tous les habitants puissent se préparer comme il se doit à l’évènement.
La chanson aurait déjà été enregistré par 400 personnes qui se seraient réunies au square Nelson Mandela de Johannesburg.
«C’est tout simplement merveilleux, donnez l’occasion aux Sud Africains de se réunir et ils ne cesseront jamais de vous étonner.», soulignait Anitha Soni, membre du conseil d’administration de Brand South Africa, une organisation chargée de promouvoir l’Afrique Du Sud.
Bien évidemment de nombreuses marques se sont livrés une lutte acharnée pour avoir la chance de sponsoriser l’évènement. Les heureuses gagnantes sont Brand South Africa, Proudly South Africa et bien sûr The Nelson Mandela Foundation. On peut aussi noter que le département de l’éducation primaire a obtenu un partenariat.
Toutes les écoles et associations sont invitées à rendre ce jour encore plus beau en préparant des activités spécifiques.
«Celui-là est très spécial puisque Madiba aura 94 ans et il avait été élu président en 1994», déclarait fièrement Lesley Sedibe.
Un des mots préféré de Nelson Mandela était « rassemblement ». Cette chanson va donc rassembler tous les Sud Africains en faisant chanter tous ensemble des musiciens, des hommes d’affaires, des stars de la télé, des sportifs, des hommes politiques et des citoyens ordinaires Des gens en provenance d’autres pays sont même attendus.
«Nous célébrons aujourd’hui l’anniversaire d’un homme qui, lorsqu’il est sorti de prison, a rassemblé toute l’Afrique Du Sud quand ses opposants déclaraient que ce pays était au bord de l’effondrement.», racontait Moss Mashishi, ex président de la confédération d’Afrique Du Sud des sports et du comité olympique.
Mandela est sorti de prison en 1990 et a immédiatement fait abroger l’apartheid avec l’appui de son parti, le Congrès National Africain.
Lorsqu’il a accédé au pouvoir en 1994, il n’a pas souhaité une revanche sur les blancs mais a appelé à la paix et à l’amour entre tous les Sud Africains, indépendamment de leur couleur de peau.
Mandela est l’une des personnes les plus populaire au monde, l’Assemblé Générale des Nations Unies a donc proclamé le 18 juillet, date de son anniversaire, «Journée Internationale Mandela».
La fondation Nelson Mandela a expliqué que «le but de la journée était d’inciter les gens à prendre des mesures pour aider le monde à s’améliorer en établissant un mouvement mondial pour le bien».
Mon opinion : Cet évènement peut paraître un peu étrange pour quelques personnes, toute la nation fête l’anniversaire d’un homme politique. Mais on peut facilement comprendre que Madiba représente bien plus qu’un homme politique, il représente l’égalité, la liberté, la paix ... Cet évènement apparaît comme la célébration de l’anniversaire de Mandela mais aussi comme la célébration de ces valeurs.
