African National Congress to reelect Jacob Zuma
His political adversary Kgalema Motlanthe, is at the moment the vice-president of South Africa.
The African National Congress or ANC was created in 1912 to defend the interests of the black majority against the white minority in office. This party was outlawed by the national party led by white people during apartheid in 1960. It was made legal on February 2, 1990 whereas apartheid was abolished in June 1991. The first multiracial elections took place in 1994 allowing Nelson Mandela to be elected President of the South African Republic. Since, the ANC absolutely has dominated South Africa's political life with a steady 60-70% of the votes.
The country feels bad. Jacob Zuma is widely criticized.
A starving population is asking for higher wages in the mines and the in countryside.
During a recent demonstration the police killed 36 strikers. The media considers that he is responsible for this slaughter.
Meanwhile, the President has lavishly extended his home with taxpayer money.
In spite of all the criticism, Jacob Zuma should be reelected at the head
of the ANC on December 20, 2012. He can rely on the majority vote of the ANC's
delegates. They defend the president saying that Jacob Zuma is the victim of a
smear campaign.
His political adversary Kgalema Motlanthe, is the on-going vice-president.
This reelection at the head of his party should allow him to seek a second
term as President of South Africa in 2014.
