En Afrique du sud, 80% de la population est noire. Cependant, la chaîne de télévision diffusant "Idols South Africa" étant payante, le programme est principalement regardé par la classe moyenne, majoritairement blanche. Ainsi, les téléspectateurs principalement blancs ont apparemment toujours tendance à voter selon des critères raciaux. Certains métis avaient tout de même pu remporter le jeu télévisé auparavant. Toutefois, ces derniers sont souvent considérés différemment des noirs sud-africains.

The first episode was broadcast on the 5th of October 2001. This program is shown in France, on the television channel W9, under the title "Nouvelle Star". South Africa, 80% of the population is black. However, television broadcasting "Idols
South Africa" is a subscription channel and the program is mainly seen by
the middle class, mostly white. Viewers apparently still tend to vote along
racial lines. Some half-caste has been able to win the game show before. Meanwhile,
they are often treated differently from black South Africans.
This victory is therefore an uproar in South Africa.
