South Africa resumes relations with Morocco

South Africa will re-open their diplomatic relations with Morocco, Jacob Zuma said in an interview.

Morocco called back its ambassador from Pretoria in 2004 because the African National Congress (ANC, Jacob Zuma's party) supported the independance of the Western Sahara and accused Morocco of occupying the territory.

Morocco has controlled a big part of the Western Sahara since 1975, it’s a strategic place a because of its resources: phosphate, oil. In 1991 a ceasefire called for a referendum on self-determination for the Western Sahara, but the vote has never taken place.

Zuma said: “Morocco is an African nation and we need to have relations with them”, “We never had problems with them anyway; they were the first to withdraw diplomatic relations”.

So Jacob Zuma met the king Mohammed VI in an African Union-European Union summit. Jacob Zuma said about the position, of Morocco: “They felt that even if we differ on the Western Sahara issues, the two countries should have a relationship”.

So even if South Africa and Morocco differ on the situation of the Western Sahara, they must have some relationships. The ANC said it supports the Western Sahara but it does agree to resume relations with Morocco.

L'Afrique du Sud rétablit ses relations avec le Maroc

L'Afrique du Sud et le Maroc vont reprendre leurs relations diplomatiques, a déclaré Jacob Zuma dans une interview.

Le Maroc avait rappelé son ambassadeur à Pretoria en 2004 car le Congrès National Africain (ANC, le parti de Jacob Zuma) soutenait l’indépendance du Sahara Occidental et accusait le Maroc d'occuper ce territoire "illégalement". 

Le Maroc contrôle une grande partie du Sahara Occidental, c’est devenu une position stratégique notamment pour ses ressources enphosphate et en pétrole. En 1991 un référendum d’auto-détermination devait avoir lieu pour décider de l’indépendance ou non du Sahara Occidental, mais le vote n’a jamais eu lieu.

Selon le président Zuma : « Le Maroc est une nation Africaine et nous devons avoir des relations avec lui », « Nous n’avons jamais eu de problèmes avec lui de toute façon, ils ont été les premiers à arrêter les relations diplomatiques ».

Jacob Zuma a rencontré le roi Mohammed VI pendant le sommet de l’Union Africaine et l’Union Européenne. Jacob Zuma a déclaré à propos de la position du Maroc sur cette question : « Ils estiment que même si nous différons sur la question du Sahara Occidental, les deux pays doivent s’entendre ».

L’ANC a déclaré qu’il soutiendrait le Sahara Occidental mais qu’il acceptait une reprise des relations diplomatiques.

Farmer helps police arrest

On November 14 2017 in Rustemberg, between Pretoria and Johannesburg, eight men were arrested by the police for illegal fire arms and ammunitions possession. 

The police spokerperson, Adele Myburgh, said the eight men were aged between 25 and 35 years old, they were arrested with the help of a farmer. 

She said, a farmer was driving along Wesselsbron road when he saw a suspicious vehicle and called the police immediatly. The police conducted a search in the vehicle and found two 9mm guns with ammunitions, knives, balaclavas, gloves and other many items.
The suspects were charged with the illegal possession of fire arms and will appear in court Wednesday 16 in Wolmaransstad.

Un fermier aide la police à arrêté un groupe d'hommes armés

Le 14 Novembre 2017 a Rustenburg entre Pretoria et Johannesburg, huit hommes ont été arrêtés par la police pour possession illégale d'armes à feu et de munitions.
Le porte-parole de la police, Adèle Myburgh, a expliqué que les huit hommes étaient tous âgés entre 25 et 35 ans et que la police avait pu les arrêter avec l'aide d'un fermier.
Il roulait le long de la route de Wesselsbron quand il aperçut un véhicule suspect. Il appela aussitôt la police qui une fois arrivé le fouilla. Ils trouvèrent des pistolets 9mm avec des munitions ainsi que des couteaux, des cagoules, des gants et d'autres objets.
Les suspects ont donc été arrêtés et seront jugés mercredi 16 novembre au tribunal de Wolmaransstad.

Vandalism act causes the death of five children

On Sunday 5 November, five children die caused by the fall of an electric post in the Soshanguve township located in the Pretoria region.

Local autorities discovered that power wires had been stolen, wich resulted in the fall of the electric post on a group of five children who were playing at the foot of the electrical mast.

Four of them, aged six to twelve, were crushed by the post, the fifth who was transported to the hospital, died later of serious injuries.

The mayor, Solly Mmsimanga, opened an investigation on the incident and said that evidence had been found that electrical cables were stolen, but insisted that the municipality was not to blame for the incident.

Un acte de vandalisme cause la mort de cinq enfants

Dimanche 5 Novembre, cinq enfants sont morts à cause de la chute d'un poteau électrique dans le township de Soshanguve dans l'agglomération de Pretoria. La municipalité de la ville a découvert que certains fils avaient été volés ce qui semble être à l'origine de la chute du poteau électrique sur un groupe de 5 enfants qui étaient en train de joués au pied du mât.

Les quatre enfants âgés de six à douze ans sont morts écrasés par le mât tandis que le cinquième transporté d'urgence à l’hôpital succombé de ses blessures.

Le maire,Solly Msimanga a lancé une enquête sur l’incident et a confirmé que desprueves confirmaientle vol des câbles électriques maisa insisté sur le fait que la responsabilité de la municipalité n'est pas engagé

Rumors about a revival of the mega nuclear attack

On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, president Jacob Zuma appointed David Mahlobo, former minister of State Security, to the post of Minister of Energy. This choice has rekindled around about a revival of the mega-nuclear project wich has been postponed several times. Initiated in 2010, the project of construction of six to eight new reactors with a capacity of 9,600 megawatts, for a cost up to 65 billion euros, is the object of many oppositions.

Last April, the South African justice had halted the revival of the programme, on the grounds that the cooperation agreements signed with Russia, the United States and South Korea were "unconstitutional and illegal".

Le président sud-africain Jacob Zuma a nommé, le mardi 17 octobre 2017, David Mahlobo, ex-ministre de la sécurité d’état, au poste de ministre de l’énergie. Un choix qui a nourri des rumeurs autour d’une relance du projet nucléaire plusieurs fois repoussé. Group of men attack police during a drug raid

On Tuesday October 10, 2017, a video was posted online, showing a dead man on the ground and a group of men attacking six policemen during a drug raid at Vanderbijlpark, next to Johannesburg.

On the video, the situation seems confused; people are arguing, some soldiers can be seen on the left. At one point some gunshots are heard, the camera moves to the right and some people are shouting.

“Six police officers were injured after being assaulted by a group of men. The police were following information on a drug house in the area. During the attack the police used shots to disperse the crowd. No one was shot at or injured. Community members came out with a dead body of a man and dropped it on the scene”, said Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubela, but according to him the man was already dead because he had no visible shots on his body.

The police are investigating the assault and the murder, but no arrests have been made yet.

Une vidéo montre des policiers agressés

Le mardi 10 octobre 2017, une vidéo a été diffusée sur internet montrant un homme mort gisant sur le sol et un groupe de six hommes qui attaquent des policiers pendant un raid sur une maison où était stockée de la drogue, cela s’est passé à Vanderbijlpark à côté de Johannesburg.

Dans cette vidéo on peut voir d’abord la foule, la situation à l’air confuse, les gens discutent, on voit également des militaires à côté. A un moment on entend des coups de feu et les gens commencent à crier

“Six policier ont été blessés après avoir été attaqués par un groupe d’hommes. La police surveillait, grâce à des informations, une maison suspecte dans la région. Pendant l’attaque la police a tiré plusieurs fois pour disperser la foule. Personne n’a été tué ou blessé. Des hommes sont sortis avec un cadavre et l’ont déposé par terre”, a déclaré Kay Makhubela, le porte-parole de la police de Gauteng.

Selon lui l’homme n’aurait pas été tué par la police car il n’avait pas de traces visibles de tirs sur son corps.

La police enquête actuellement sur l’attaque et le meurtrier mais pour le moment, elle n’a procédé à aucune arrestation.

South Africa vs. obesity

The government has decided to introduce a 20% tax on sugary drinks, in order to reduce obesity and overweight which are gaining more ground in the country.

According to WHO, 33.5% of South Africans would be overweight, this trend is more widespread among women with 70% of them overweight. Following the example of Mexico, Hungary and France, South Africa will introduce this tax April 1, 2017 with a threshold of 4mg of sugar per 100mL of drink. Each gram of sugar exceeding this threshold will be taxable. This new tax is approved by the National Treasury, which stresses that tax measures are an increasingly effective complementary tool to help fight obesity in the world.


L’Afrique du sud en lutte contre l’obésité

Le gouvernement a décidé de mettre en place une taxe de 20% sur les boissons gazeuses sucrées, afin de diminuer l’obésité et le surpoids qui gagne de plus en plus de terrain dans le pays.

Selon l’OMS, 33,5% de la population sud-africaine serait en surpoids, cette tendance est plus répandue chez les femmes avec 70% des femmes du pays en surpoids.

South Africa win at Wellington Sevens

The Blitzboks defeated Fiji at Wellington Sevens. Thanks to this clear victory, (26-5) the South African team proved once again its determination and its control of the field.

They also took a few points ahead of the world ranking on the Fiji team which currently holds the Olympic title.

The Blitzboks also proved their mettle as they had already won the Dubai tournament andreached the final in Cape Town last month. Team captain Philip Snyman said this victory is a team effort "bravo to his guys" adding that on that day they played a phenomenal rugby.

L'équipe d'Afrique du Sud s'impose au Wellington Sevens

Les Blitzboks se sont imposé contre les Fidji lors du tournoi de rugby à sept de Wellington. Grâce à cette nette victoire (26-5) l'équipe sud-africaine a prouvé une fois de plus sa détermination et sa maitrise sur le terrain.

Elle a également repris quelques points d'avance au classement mondial sur l'équipe des Fidji qui possède championne olympique.

Les Blitzboks, grâce à cette prouesse ont également démontré leur régularité. En effet les Blitzboks n'en sont pas à leur premier tournoi de la saison, ils ont déjà remporté celui de Dubai et atteint la finale au Cap le mois dernier.

Le capitaine Philip Snyman a déclaré que cette victoire était due au travail d'équipe, "bravo a ses gars", il a ajouté que ce jour-là, ils avaient joué un rugby phénoménal.

Migrants protest against Xenophobia

Monday 19 December, the migrants living in downtown of Johannesburg, followed by local associations as well as invested citizens demonstrated to protest the xenophobic remarks uttered by the mayor.

A few days before the mayor of the city dubbed foreigners “criminals”.

The demonstration was staged outside his offices.

The issue of foreign migrants in South Africa is quite volatile, the country knows an increasingly important wave of xenophobic violence. According to some citizens the mayor of Johannesburg is used to trivializing xenophobia while the situation of foreigners in South Africa is already very difficult. Manytestimonies describe the situation as very hard, many foreigners die because of unaffordable healthcare.In most cases obtaining legal documents is very slow -up to several years - moreover the administration of the country is easily corruptible and many foreigners resort to bribes to be able to enter the country.

President Zuma mired in corruption scandal

Last week, President Zuma was implicated in a corruption scandal after the revelation of a 355-page report denouncing acts of corruption by the Gupta family, a family of rich businessmen. They corrupted a number of ministers and officials to make money and take control of South Africa. The report was revealed by public protector Thuli Madonsela and features testimonies, telephone logs and other evidence.

It shows Mr. Gupta, tried to bribe Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonasin with 600,000Rand if he accepted the post of finance minister,which he refused.

The appointed minister was Mr. Des Van Rooyen. The telephone records show than he was in the Gupta house, seven timesincluding the day of his appointment. After the revelation, crowds took to the street in Pretoria. But, police fired water cannon to disperse protesters who were marching on Mr Zuma’s main office to demand his resignation.

Le Président Zuma menacé par un rapport sur la corruption


Le deux novembre dernier, une commission d’enquête a rendu public un rapport de 355 pages impliquant le président Zuma dans une affaire de corruption.

Le rapport dénonce les agissements de la famille Gupta, de riches entrepreneurs qui auraient corrompu la plupart des ministres et de nombreux hauts fonctionnaires dans le but de s’enrichir et de prendre le contrôle du pays.

Ce rapport a été rédigé par l'ex médiatrice Thuli Madonsela. Il est composé de nombreux témoignages, de relevés téléphoniques et d'autres pièces à conviction.

On y apprend notamment que M. Gupta a tenté de corrompre le ministre adjoint des finances en lui proposant de verser600.000 rand sur le compte de son choix s’il acceptait de prendre la fonction de ministre des finances. Celui-ci a décliné l'offre et M. Des Van Rooyen a été choisi à sa place. Or les relevés téléphoniques acquis par Mme Thuili Madonsela, révèle la présence du ministre des finances dans la maison de la famille Gupta à plus de 7 reprises y compris le jour avant la nomination. Suite a la polémique, M. Zuma a été obligé de le renvoyer de son gouvernement. Mais ce nouveau scandale amobilisé l’opinion publique qui a manifesté dans les rues de Pretoria. La foule en colère s'est vu stoppée par des tirs de canonà eau déclenchés par les forces de l'ordre. La foule voulait se rendre au siège de la présidence pour demander la démission

Fire crash in Roodepoort: a woman died

A woman died and five other people were injured Friday at 6.30 a.m. in Roodepoort a small suburb of Johannesburg.

The incident happened on Friday morning on Wilgerood Road towards Christian De Wet Road in Roodepoort. The crash occurred after two cars collided head-on. When ambulances arrived, they found one vehicle in fire on the side of the road. On closer inspection, they saw that a woman was blocked inside the burning car.Witnesses said that the fire engine that was on the scene did not have water but Robert Mulaudzi, City of Joburg’s Emergency Management Services spokesperson explained. “The reports that have come to light portray us as unprofessional people and it disturbs me. The vehicle that was deployed initially is a rescue vehicle and it does not carry water, so it cannot be expected to have water.”

Unfortunately, paramedics couldn’t rescue the woman. Four sustained minor injuries; however, one is in a critical condition.

It is believed the driver of one vehicle lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming car. A third vehicle is said to have rammed into the rear of the first one.

Incendie à Roodepoort: les pompiers à sec

Une femme est morte et cinq autres personnes ont été blessées vendredi à 6h30 à Roodepoort, une petite banlieue de Johannesburg.

L'incident s'est produit vendredi matin sur Wilgerood Road vers Christian De Wet Road à Roodepoort après une collision entre deux voitures. Quand les secourssont arrivés, ils ont trouvé un véhicule en feu sur le bord de la route. Une femme était bloquée à l'intérieur. Le camion de pompiers qui était sur place ne disposait pas d'eau, mais Robert Mulaudzi, porte-parole du Services des Urgences de Johannesburg a expliqué. "on a critiqué notre manque de professionnalisme dans la presse et cela me dérange. Le véhicule qui a été déployé initialement est un véhicule de sauvetage et il ne transporte pas d'eau, donc on ne peut pas s'attendre à avoir de l'eau. "

Quatre personnes ont subi des blessures légères, une autre est dans un état critique.
Le conducteur aurait perdu le contrôle de son véhicule et a heurté de plein fouet une voiture qui venait en sens inverse. Un troisième véhicule a ensuite percuté la première voiture.

Fight in the South Africa parliament

Members of an opposition party fought him with security officers, who expelled them

the radical Economic Freedom Fighters’ party (EFF) were protesting against Jacob Zuma

radical Economic Freedom Fighters' party (EFF), who are all dressed in red, scuffled with
security guards who ejected them from the parliament. Members of EFF said that Jacob
Zuma “scoundrel” and “rotten to the core” because of the corruption. The scenes unfolded
on national television.
This is the third consecutive year that the speech of Jacob Zuma is disrupted.
Outside parliament, police used stun grenades to disperse opposition and government
supporters because they attacked the Cap Town. This year, the President's speech was
held under high security, with 441 soldiers in support of the police forces, in order to
"maintain law and order" in the Parliament.

Zuma et son parti. Les députés ont perturbé pendant plus d'une heure le discours de
Jacob Zuma, considérant que le président ne peut pas parler comme cela à d'autres
personnes. Les membres du Parti radical des défenseurs de la liberté économique (EFF),
tous habillés en rouge, ont été blessés par des gardiens de sécurité qui les ont expulsés
du Parlement. Les membres de l'EFF ont déclaré que Jacob Zuma est «scélérat» et «
pourri à la base» en raison de la corruption. Les scènes se déroulaient à la télévision
nationale.



C'est la troisième année consécutive que le discours de Jacob Zuma est perturbé


À l'extérieur du parlement, la police a utilisé des grenades paralysantes pour disperser l'opposition et les partisans du gouvernement parce qu'ils ont attaqué le Cap. Cette année, le discours du président se déroulait sous haute sécurité, avec 441 soldats en renfort des forces de polices, afin de « maintenir l’ordre et la loi » au Parlement.
